What is Mystic Tan?
Mystic Tan creates an even, natural looking UV-free tan
in less than a minute through its patented MagneTanTM technology. The Mystic TanTM
booth sprays an ultra fine mist of Aloe Vera-enriched sunless tanning solution and
quick-start bronzers. When the solution passes through the booth’s nozzles, it is
polarized, taking on the characteristics of tiny magnets. The MagneTan technology
then uses the body’s own magnetic properties to attract the solution to all exposed
surfaces of the skin. The tan begins to darken about four hours after the session
and reaches its peak color within about 24 hours.
Explain how MagneTan works for me.
The Mystic Tan solution is polarized negatively, so when
it is sprayed toward the human body, which is neutral, the solution is attracted
to the body, much the same way that a balloon with static electricity will attract
to a wall. The MagneTan technology ensures a very even tan because the solution
is attracted around the tanner, which means that the sides of the body are also
evenly tanned.
How long does it last?
Mystic Tan begins to fade after about four or five days,
or until the skin naturally exfoliates.
So, will Mystic Tan turn the skin orange
like lotions tend to do?
No. The problem with sunless tanning lotions is the application.
It’s hard to apply the right amount and do it without any streaking. Mystic Tan’s
MagneTan technology assures that all areas of the body get a uniform coating of
just the right amount of self tanner to produce an even, natural-looking tan.
Will Mystic Tan discolor fingernails?
No. We provide a barrier cream that tanners put on their
palms, fingernails, and feet (should they choose) before entering the Mystic Tan
booth. The cream blocks the Mystic Tan solution from those areas.
Does Mystic Tan provide protection from the sun?
Because Mystic Tan is completely UV free, it doesn’t provide
any protection from the sun the way a melanin tan will.
Who should use Mystic Tan?
Everyone. We have customers who use Mystic Tan to get
a quick tan before a big event, such as a party or wedding; customers who use it
to enhance their current tan; customers who have hard-to-tan skin; and customers
who want a tan but don’t want to use the conventional tanning beds
Is Mystic Tan safe?
All of the components of Mystic Tan have been used in
food and/or cosmetics for decades. The Mystic Tan solution contains more than 65
percent Aloe Vera, which moisturizes the skin. The self-tanning element, DHA (dihydroxyacetone)
is used in virtually all sunless tanning creams and lotions. We do tell people not
to use Mystic Tan if they have ever had an allergic reaction to self tanners. We
encourage those people to test the solution on a small area of skin before doing
a complete session. Since Mystic Tan was introduced in 1998, well over 1 million
sessions have been completed, and the company has not had any reports of allergic
reactions.
Do you have any tips for getting the perfect Mystic
Tan?
Mystic Tan works best if you exfoliate and moisturize
first, and it will last longer if you moisturize the skin frequently, beginning
about six hours after the session.
Will the Mystic Tan solution get in the hair?
We provide a cap to wear over the hair. However, the solution
does not penetrate hair follicles, so it won’t stain hair if the cap is not used
or hair is exposed.
What do people wear?
Most people don’t wear anything. The Mystic Tan room,
just like our other tanning rooms, is completely private.
How much does it cost?
A single session is $25.00.
What’s the difference between a bronzer and a
self tanner?
A bronzer is a cosmetic dye designed to give an instant
tan. It is water soluble and will wash off in a shower or bath. The self tanner,
in this case the DHA, reacts with the proteins and amino acids in the skin’s top
layer to form a golden brown color.
When was Mystic Tan developed?
Mystic Tan and MagneTan technology were developed by Troy
Cooper, the president and CEO of Mystic Tan. The first booth was introduced in a
salon in Dallas in 1998.
